Cute Things My Son Has Said, Part 1

My son is 6.  Over they years he has said some pretty cute things.  Here are some of them.

  • My all-time favorite Cute Thing he has said was about sushi.  He and I went for sushi on my birthday, when he was almost 4.  He loves tako (octopus sushi).  We sat at the bar, so he could see the big ol' lump of octopus tentacle in front of him.  Suction cups and all.

"Octopus sushi is very good," he said.  "But it doesn't sting you."
    "Why not?" I asked him.
"Because they took the bees out."

  • We have been reading Charlotte's Web as a bedtime story lately.  He was confused because Charlotte doesn't show up until Chapter 5, so he kept trying to guess who Charlotte was from the picture on the front cover, which shows Fern (the girl), Wilbur (the pig), Charlotte, and a couple other barnyard animals.  His best guess was that "maybe Wilbur changes his name to Charlotte when he grows up."

At the end of Chapter 5, there's a little bit of foreshadowing as the goose thinks to herself about what will happen to Wilbur around Christmastime - how he was destined to become the Zuckerman's Christmas ham.

"Why are they going to eat their pet?" he asked.
"Wilbur's not their pet," I answered.  "The Zuckermans are farmers, and he's a farm animal, and the main reason you raise animals on a farm is to eat them."
    "But why?"
"Well, pigs are where ham comes from."
His eyes got really big and he went silent for a moment.  I could see the Cogs of Vegetarianism turning in his head.
"But... couldn't they get ham from another animal?" he asked.
"Ham only comes from pigs.  Bacon comes from pigs too."  We had just had a conversation about bacon two nights ago at his grandparent's house.
The Cogs of Vegetarianism had met the Monkey Wrench of Tastiness.  He loves bacon, you see.
Finally he said "Couldn't... couldn't they just get only bacon from pigs?"
