It's been over a year since I updated this blog.  A lot has happened... and a lot that should have happened, hasn't.
I started my own business.  It's harder than I thought, but the hard part is getting customers.  I've had two people get out of the business and promise to hand their customer lists over to me, just to have them go "psych! no customers for you!" at the last minute for the lamest reasons imaginable.  It's enough to make one quite bitter.

I'm coaching chess at my son's grade school.  I'm a freakin' rock star there now.  I don't think these kids get enough quality time with male role models in their lives.

I'm still looking for a real job.  Same thing's happening with that as happened with the customer lists: "Oh we want you! Come in for an interview!  Come in for a second interview!  You're our #1 prospect, now all we have to do is get Finance to fund this req!"

Wait, what?  You've made me go through all this work, and more importantly you've made yourself go through all this work, and you don't even know if you have the money to hire someone?  Isn't that something you would do, you know, first in the hiring process?  That's happened to me twice now.

Still, hope springs eternal.

Oh, and I'm still teaching myself Java.
